Alcohol And Breast Cancer, Not A Good Mix

Many women do not realize the risks that they put them self's in when they drink alcohol. It is said that the hormone estrogen is what fuels at least 80% of every case of breast cancer.

When a woman drinks alcohol, it changes her levels of the female hormones. This in the long run, causes much more cases of estrogen-receptor positive breast cancer.

It doesn't matter what type of alcohol a woman drink, whether it be beer, wine or even liquor, it is the alcohol that is consumed. 

There are many people that believe in benefits for heart help in red wine but it is actually the flavonoids and antioxidants that protect your heart not the alcohol in the red wine.

So if you would like to get the benefits of red wine for your heart then you can opt to go with an alcohol free red wine. There are different kinds of alcohol so what it considered to be just one drink? 

5 ounces of wine
12 ounces of regular beer
1.5 ounces of any liquor that is 80 proof 

Many women can raise their risk slightly of getting cancer by just having one drink a day. It has been said that if a woman has one drink a day she raises her chances by 10%, two drinks per day would be 20% and three drinks would raise the risk to 40%.

It is said that ˝ of one drink a day is said to be safe but obviously abstaining from alcohol all together is the best way to go. If you drink three or more servings per day then you are putting yourself at a higher risk for getting breast cancer.

Women have been challenged with their hormones for many reasons with the number one reason being their period. If you add alcohol to that mix, it puts a woman's hormone level at a constant uneven mix and that leads to problems. There are many reasons that you should avoid alcohol.

First and foremost is if you are pregnant as you will not only damage yourself but you will harm your baby as well. Of course children as well as teenagers should avoid alcohol consumption.

Many medications do not mix well with alcohol so check with your doctor to see if any medications that you are taking are in that category. There are also many medical conditions that alcohol can have an ill effect on such as: dementia, liver disease and ulcers to name a few.

No one wants to battle such things as cancer let alone breast cancer. Do your self a favor and protect yourself as much as you can. Keep yourself healthy and take care of your body.

You only get one body in your lifetime so treat it well and help it to last as long as possible. Be sure to do your monthly breast exams and stay away from excessive amounts of alcohol especially if you have been diagnosed with breast cancer.
