Happy Holidays On A Budget

Let's face it, the holidays can be very hard to deal with especially if you are on a tight budget and you have a large family to buy gifts for.

There are many gifts that you can give to your family and friends that cost little to nothing at all. All too often, people get caught up in the holidays as a gift giving celebration and people try to be too elaborate with the gifts that they give.

What we all seem to forget is that it is the thought that counts.

Think about it, 10 years from now, which do you think you will cherish more: a music CD that your niece bought for you or a hand made picture that has painted handprints of your precious niece with a special poem to go with it?

Of course it would be the poem and hand prints. It is gifts like these that you can give to your friends and family and they will cost you next to nothing. You and your kids will have a blast making gifts like these for everyone and it also lets you have some good quality time with your kids.

Below are some great gift ideas that you can do with items that you already have at home.

  • Hand print flower pot: this you can do with any extra flower pots that you may have around. This is a good gift that your kids can give to a grandparent or parent.

Have your child use some art paint to paint the palms of his or her hands then have them place the hand prints on white paper.

The hand flowers then can be cut out and taped or glued to a pipe cleaner that can be placed in the flower pot.

You can use the green Styrofoam for the flower pot to hold the flowers in place then glue some fake potting moss over the Styrofoam to make the plant more realistic. This will be sure to make an extra special gift.

  • You can take regular Christmas ornaments and add your own touch to them to make them extra special. The regular glass or metal colored ball decorations work really well.

You can have your kids personalize an ornament for everyone by using craft paints to put the persons name on it as well as the year and possible a pictures. Then you can add a sprinkle of glitter for a great finishing touch.

  • There really are no limits as to what you can make for presents. You can even take pretty coffee mugs and stuff them with hot cocoa mix and directions for how to make a cup of cocoa.

You and your kids will have a great time making the presents together and your family and friends will cherish these gifts above all the rest. You can ask your kids what sorts of ideas that they may have and let everyone contribute to what the gifts will be as well as making them.
