How To Avoid Date Rape

Women go on date to have fun and to meet someone they can possibly have a relationship with. No one expects that their date will rape them but unfortunately this does happen.

There are people out there that only have one intention when they go out on a date. Women need to know how to protect themselves against date rape and how to steer clear of that type of man.

Statistics show that the most common age for date rape victims is between the age of 16 and 24. With the tips below you can help to not become one of the statistics.

You can empower yourself with the knowledge on how to avoid date rape and what you can do to protect yourself.

  • Don't go out alone with someone you don't know. You can go with a group of friends or be sure to be in a public area where there are a lot of people such a restaurant, theme park etc…

  • Don't drink too much. People tend to let their guard down as they consume alcohol. You want to keep your wits about you when on a date so limit your intake of alcohol.

  • Keep some protection with you such as mace or pepper spray in your purse. It is a proven fact that men are generally stronger then women and you don't want to be helpless in the event that he tries to over power you.

  • Don't get to close. While a little flirting is ok you don't want to give him any idea that you want more than just a friendly date.

  • Know the law and what your rights are. The law for women 18 and older states that rape is when a man forcefully penetrates any opening of a woman with any part of his body. It is considered forceful when a woman has stated no or has not given permission for the man to do so.

  • The same goes for a woman who is unconscious as she cannot give consent. Women under the influence of sedatives or mood altering drugs are not in control, therefore cannot consent. Remember that your body is yours and no one has the right to violate your body in any way unless you give them permission to do so.

  • Protect yourself from date rape and avoid becoming one of the statistics. You can be sure that your dates are fun and exciting by following the tips above. Just keep in mind that studies show that most date rapes happen from a person that the women knew.

  • Your attacker can be someone you have been friends with for months. This is why it is important to look for signs and to use caution no matter who your date is. Stay in control of the date and don't let him get to close until you are sure that all is ok and that you are ready to move the relationship to the next level.
